DSB'12X5 is on a distinguished road
And they are a lot more bright, I can easily drive with my lights off (rings on, DRL) through my pitch black driveway at night. I doubt you can do that with last gen halos. They also light up evenly around the ring. I think if you saw a new one on an X5 you would immediately distinguish it. Not sure how they were in older ones, but the new X5 has them running all the time. You cannot turn them off. I have seen bunch of X5s, even LCI's driving around with them off because theirs are note DRL LED's.

The LED stock ones? Yes, you can turn them off in iDrive.
Menu > Settings > Lighting > Daytime Running > Uncheck.
