Don't go by what people say the price they got--if you search autotrader.com for an 08 CPO 4.8 under 30K miles, under $40K there are only 2 in the whole country. You have to look at the options, if it's a CPO, etc.

Deals are out there...you'll need to be patient. Best recommendation I can give you is to get to know your market. Keep an eye on the vehicles for sale, what they're configured with, and what is being asked.

As a reference in October 2010 I purchased a 2007 4.8 X5 with 35K miles, very well equipped (everything minus the ventilated seats, HUD, and premium sound) for $35K before taxes.

That's basically the equivalent of buying an '08 4.8 now with 35K miles (being it's a year later)--which for a non-CPO is probably about right and plenty out there for $35K.
