Yes, once you take it off, you can tuck the wires back in the hole (underneath the center console). You won't have a plastic "flap" that's about 2x3" to cover the hole at the back of the inner compartment though.
The base plate was significantly redesigned compared to the version that was available as a accessory option in 08.

The newer base plate has additional connections for analog video and audio to the CIC and the aux port as well as a USB connection to the combox. Since this part is not a retrofit part or a accessory option the location of the connections are not freely available unless you take the center console apart.
