Battery discharge

The fun continues , had the battery discharge MSG a few times , while car was in for new brake discs and oil seperator they charged it overnight and did battery drain diagnostic , nothing showing as draining the battery , got usual comments regarding short trips and all that rubbish , went for drive today and MSG pops up again , so now they want to look at the alternator or a new batt , it was fully charged only 24 ago , getting tired of this .

Interestingly enough I had this issue this past weekend and it was a software update that was needed. Fixed this issue

Can you share more details on the Software Update? Is there a Reference # that a dealer will understand? Thanks.

Software update did not work for my X5. New battery has corrected the issue.

1. Root cause can be one of perhaps 100 issues. To say "Software is the fix for a battery discharge issue" is....well... shortsighted.

2. Battery is usually not the PROBLEM, but is the part that fails. You can replace it, the issue goes away, until the underlying parasitic drain problem (or short driving cycles) kill the battery again.

3. Diagnose the root cause, THEN fix that issue. A "battery discharge message" is not a root cause.
