Newbie with questions.

Hello all. After a horrible experience with an '09 ML350 thought I'd come back to the X5. Looking at one in particular, and just a few questions.

Seem like a good deal? 2008 3.0si with 45,000 miles, new brakes and tires, alignment, serviced with new oil and air filters. One owner car with clean service history and carfax and looks like new, inside and out. No nav or backup camera though. 2 months left on factory warranty. $31,000

I had a great local mechanic do a PPI on it. He found the radiator had a minor leak, as did the valve cover gasket. The dealer agreed to replace with a new radiator and valve cover gasket.

I remember the radiator and cooling system to be the achilles heel of my '03 v8 X5. Is that the case with the newer model as well?

I'd look for one with the nav and reversing camera. Because once the novelty of having a new car wears out, you'd wish you got one with them fitted already.

But that's just me.

i traded in my 08 X5 3.0 because it felt heavy and lacked real power... once on the highway it was ok.. but the real point is that once that piece of excitement wore off i was able to keep the excitement going with dvd, nav, backup camera, etc.. i think it's a good point that was mentioned earlier...

you kind of want your "new" vehicle to have some of the latest technology...

people will say "wow, that's a nice truck, what year is it, how much did you pay, does it come with this... that....other? no?? still a nice truck"

then walk over to their ford/chevy truck that has them.....

i always thought them to be really nice trucks... and almost got the new model...

my wife preferred the bimmer so i got another X...

the MLs do look pretty nice?

i noticed they no longer make an 8cyl version...

I'm not overly concerned with the nav or camera to be honest. From what I've read on the electrical issues/battery drain, maybe having a little less tech is not such a bad thing. I also didn't really use them on the ML..given they are crap on the ML though.

I did just see a similar miles and price car pop up in my area with all the extras, but its beige on beige. Not sure I'm in that stage of life yet. lol

The ML was a nice riding car and great options...but lots of issues. A/c motor went out twice, cam magnet sensor, rear gate mechanism broke 3 times, control arms on all 4 wheels replaced, alarm going off randomly for a few weeks. The tranny wouldn't shift out of first for a while, it would just rev til you shut the car off. I brought it in for an alarming groaning noise while in reverse 2 months ago. After two months of the head mechanic and a regional MB engineer looking at it, and $8k, they still couldn't figure it out. MB agreed to brand it a lemon and buy it back.
Oh...and I did go test drive another ML yesterday at a dealer. It was a CPO car with low miles. Got all excited, thing was loaded and in pristine shape. Go for the test drive...groaning noise while driving from front left...and a vibration when letting off the gas. lol

I've always preferred the styling of the x5 better to be honest. More aggressive stance and xenon lights are standard for god sakes, which always pissed me off about the ML's. Very hard to find an ML with xenon, even the 2012.
