FYI- Front rims are 10" rears 11". It will allow us to propose other tires sizes that would work....personally, looking at the weight bias and knowing what I know about the car, it seems they have too much stagger for balanced handling- lots of understeer, but who's driving the X5 like that? mahalo guys! a couple more questions.... Any good recommendations in the LA area for window tinting? Also any good places / auto shops that deal with BMW's. I recently purchased a guys set of rep 214's and the garage that put them on, i don't think they balanced them that great. Low level vibrations. They seemed kind of clueless to the balancing and want to make sure they're balanced properly. |

| Oh, you mean cheap third world counterfeits? What makes you think it is the balance and not a defect in the rim? Anyway, take it to any brand name tire store, pay for a road force balance, you will find out if the rim is true and balanced AND if the tire is good. Unfortunately the best time to have this done is by THE SHOP that is selling the tire- if anything is wrong they'll get it fixed. With used rims and used tires, all they can do is tell you how bad it is.... still valuable to know A |

^ hunter gps9700 road force balancing machine is not faultless either. If it's out of round, our sensitive bmws will still make you vibrate. Because it's the ultimate pleasure machine.

(gasp, shock) If it is out of round, then no amount of balancing fixes it- hunter or not. A hunter RF will tell you precisely how round the wheel is- axial and lateral run out is measured to 0.01". And the balance of the bare rim is measured. You WILL know if the wheel is good. Then you mount the tire. If it will not roadforce match, the tire is defective. The shop will return it to the vendor and replace it with a new tire. You should NEVER have a mounted wheel (tire plus rim) with an imbalance of vibration if each step was done correctly. HOWEVER, if the wheel is bent, out of round- and you say 'do the best you can', then sure. Likewise, if the shop doesn't want to send tires back, they'll do their best but mount them up and give it to you... all depends on what you know, what the shop knows, and how you communicate your expectations to the shop. Last set of PS2s I mounted (315/30 and 265/35) on new 18" rims were a PITA. The fat rears were pretty easy, one needed to be 'rotated' a bit to have the tire compliance cancel out the balance of the rim. However the front 265 never worked. Tirerack drop shipped without question. I pay $40 per tire for the service and tipped my guy $20. He busted his ass getting it right. A |
