xdrive50 DASH RATTLE is actually the Engine Mounts
We have a 12 month old X5 xdrive50i and I have just taken delivery of my new X6 xdrive50i to replace my E60. Some time ago the wife noticed a low level rattle coming from the dash which has been getting worse over time. I thought it was a piece of air con ducting loose as it was only on certain bumps and was hard to demonstrate. It sounded like it was coming from the passenger side wheel well under the dash. Took it into our dealer (who have been very good) to try to get to the bottom of it. Turns out that all the twin turbo engines and some diesels are suffering from the same problem, in that it is the engine mounts fatiguing and then allowing the engine to actually move around in the engine bay. Certain speeds and bump combinations make it sound worse. The dealer has already videoed a car without a bonnet to demonstrate the movement, and tested a car without mounts to confirm. As BMW are saying very little about it yet I am trying to find out about the actual parts (mounts) themselves. I understand that the Diesels are electonic and are adjustable, and the V8's are hydraulic. Can anyone provide a part number, description or experience with these mounts? A PUMA has been started... and I want to resolve as a) it's driving my wife nuts in her car and b) I'm probably going to go through the same problem with my new car... Thanks for any input.... |
