My new 2012 X5 50i Msport delivered!!

Picked up my 2012 X5 xDrive50i Msport a month ago and have been enjoying every minute of it.

I've driven the car for about 1000 miles now and so far I am very impressed. Do not have the adaptive drive, but the handling is excellent for such a large vehicle. I've owned M3's and M5's and this thing is more than capable for spirited driving. The power is more than I expected and makes it very easy to overtake and complete any manuvre you can think of. The torque makes everything effortless and quickly propels you into triple digits. As far as fuel economy is concerned I was not expecting a Prius, but it sure feels like there is a leak somewhere in the tank! With an 80/20 highway/city split I am averaging 15mpg. I knew what I was getting into when I placed my new car order, but gas prices sky rocketing aren't making matters any better...

So far I am very happy with my decision and impressed with the capabilities of this excellent vehicle. Look forward to making it even better with a few upgrades in the very near future so stay tuned!

A few quick pics I took are below...

Congrats. If you are doing 80% highway driving you must be driving into a stiff north wind if you are getting 15 MPG. You should be getting at least 20 MPG. I get like 19-20 MPG on the highway.

Very nice, love the color and painted flares... I wish they made M package available for my diesel back 2 years ago!

Looks like you have bridgestones tires. Any comments on noise, handling ?

I do spend alot of time in bumper to bumper traffic on the "highway" so that is probably eating into the mpg...

If I could get 20mpg average I would be ecstatic. What speed do you drive at on the highway? I've experimented with cruising at 60, 65 and 70 and haven't noticed a big improvement at the slower speeds...

Unfortunately, with the Msport package you do not get the heated steering wheel. Hard to understand given the fact that the X5M has the same steering wheel (except for the tri-color stitching) and that has the heating function.

Tires aren't very noisy, but they are quite stiff and transfer any road imperfections into the car. Handling is excellent and impressive for such a large vehicle.

Bumper to bumper traffic could explain it but I do that on my commute which is 6-10 miles of interstate but always in traffic where I get near 17 mpg. I seem to be enjoying the power more lately and getting a bit less.

Steady state 70-75 mph is where I get 20 or so. Try setting the cruise for a 20-30 mile highway trip and see what you get.

Looks great!

While I would certainly consider the MSport package, I can't help being disappointed with BMW for continuing to water down the M brand and everything it stands for... I felt the same way about Audi with their S Line packages but hold BMW to a higher standard...

I suspect that this has been discussed...

135 mile trip today, 75-80 mph depending on speed limit, and I averaged 19.9 mpg. That included about 10 miles of in town driving which dropped it from an initial 20.5 mpg. I just cruised but did punch it a few times. Can't help that, merging behind idiots going 50 in a 70 zone.

are you guys doing your own calculations or are you going by what the digital avg meter states?

i just broke 1000 miles on my 2012 X5 50i this week and it states i am averaging 13.8mpg...

i have been driving it almost everyday to work which is about 20 miles each way... mostly highways but don't forget it's rush hour traffic.

other than that it's an awesome vehicle... seems to be getting stronger each week as i continue to break her in...
