Smoke in wheel well after using ac

Hi everyone,

Hopefully you can all provide me with a little insight. A couple of days ago, we got a bit of snow and I used the front defroster to clear the windows. Long story short, upon turning the car off when I reached my destination, I noticed smoke coming out from the front driver side wheel well. Now I noticed there is a vent in there, but not on the passenger side. Is that the purpose of that vent?

I opened the hood and everything seemed normal. no error messages.

Stumped!
