e70 spare tire question
I've had to do repairs fro the last 3 months on my '06 e53 and now thinking of getting newer model but the run flats is keeping me away from them. Thanks for replies. |

Here is a list of threads on the topic, via the handy Search Tab...
A few good threads list different spare tire apps for E70. Otoh, running RFTs or even non-RFTs doesn't necessarily require a spare. I have discovered 'low' tires in my driveway, (nails, screws, etc.), but haven't had a flat 'on the road' in decades. I drive our Vette with non-RFTs and never give it a thought. But, there are spare 'solutions' in the link. GL, mD Xoutpost.com - Search Results

Hey Switchman,
I came from an 06 E53, 4.4i and now have the 08 3.0. It came with the Bridgestone RFT and they were pretty loud, tread was off and had bad balding, whatever the heck. Switched to non RFT Pirelli's and love the tires but yes spare tire was always a concern. I have 3rd row seating so spare tire wont fit. I bought a large can of slime and portable air compressor and cross my fingers. Many here would argue religiously against this but hey its personal preference. After all its your X, your tire and your payments or ownership . I used to drive a 300c SRT8 and had 20 performance non RFT and no spare. The vehicle came with slime and compressor only. I did get a nail and put in slime and air and till i got to a shop, the nail was removed and my tire fixed for 15 bux. Most E70 will come with RFT since they are standard I believe. But if you don't get 3rd row, then you can get the spare kit. Will probably cost you $300+. But if you want to be economical, pack of slime and air compressor won't let you down either. Good Luck!

IIRC i believe you can get oem parts that will allow you to carry & hold a mini spare - but you cannot do this if you have 3rd row seats.

You can buy the kit from here: $335
getBMWparts.com powered by Tischer BMW - Your #1 Source for all OEM BMW Parts/Accessories! Don't let the RFT's dissuade you from the car. Find the one you like and then the tires can be addressed to how you would like it.

I'm glad to hear there's spare tire kit to be found, i definitely will get one for the planned e70. There's definitely a bigger cargo space than e53 when 3rd row seat is folded down but i don't want to pay the xtra $$ for the seat when i don't need/want it.
Thanks for all your replies, and now that my nephew works as a technician at Va Beach BMW, i may wait a little bit longer to change my ride as i get discounted rates for parts and service in the sad event that i would need them. But driving a new e70 this past week while mine is in the shop makes me want it as the ride characteristic is much behave as it appears to have a bit longer wheelbase than e53. |

When I bought my 2010 X5 the spare was an option for $150, much cheaper than doing as an accessory add-on after delivery.
However, I do not believe you can have the spare if you order the third-seat option, as the seat requires the space where the spare is stored (under the cargo floor). Also, it is a "space saver" donut type spare, not a full-sized tire. |
