windshield replacement

Hello guys,

I put a claim with farmers for my front windshield, its got big cracks, the agent told me that my local BMW dealer need to call there center to confirm pricing and all that, but they told me that my glass cost $ 450.. so if my S.A tells them that the glass is more then $1100 probably they are going to say no. how to handle the claim?
thanks guys

do you have windshield coverage in your policy? is there a deductible?

i don't understand your question, are you saying the insurance company has told you to use an aftermarket replacement? some aftermarket windshields won't allow the rain sensor for the wipers to work properly i have been told.

i had my windshield replaced at the dealer by the windshield company that does the dealer's work. dropped the car off for service and windshield was replaced by the end of the day. $100 deductible and no issues after several years.

call the dealer to see who they use for replacements.

thanks so much for the info, yes deductible for comp is $250 in TX we have to pay, farmers told my S.A that I have to call a 1800 number and tell them if they are going to send me a check for the windshield, I have to pay since insurance takes two weeks and dealer wants the money up front.. so I was just wondering because its a big difference in price probably insurance can say they won't pay.

Dealer is charging $1623 for windshield +$250 labor I think that sounds crazy , don't think insurance is going to pay for that

HolyFookinMoly! $2Gs for a windshield?!
I realize the consensus is to get a 'BMW' replacement windshield, but that quote is absurd, imo.

Back at the Ins Ranch, here in NC, one must pay 'extra' to have windshields 'covered', and there are the usual levels of deductible...I usually take a pass on the coverage.

GL to the OP...

Have you never used insurance??!?! You sound like you are 14 years old.

You file a claim with the insurance, then see what happens... there should be no mystery with paying or not paying...

Tell the insurance that the car is not drivable due to the cracks- it is a hazard- and you need a rental car- they will tell you one of two things:

1. We will pay BMW or
2. Go to shop XYZ and we will pay them to do it.

They will not just say "too much, we wont pay". If they come in under what BMW has quoted, demand that Farmers tells you which shop will accept their payment.

Anyway, when you called the 1-800 number, what did they say? And use punctuation and full sentences in the reply....
