My opinion: Mich Latitude runflats vs non runflats.

Just switched out my 255/55/18 Michilin Latitude Tour HP runflat tires for the same tire... non runflats on my 08 4.8i. I had the runflats for about half of their life. They were toast when they came off.

For impression, wow on the lack of harshness! As soon as I pulled to the street, the hard bumps were gone. On the highways expansion joints, the hard hits were replaced with light thumps. Those runflats were harsh in all respects even with plenty of tread.

For noise, I haven't noticed a difference... but than again I never thought they were loud. So worn runflats just as quiet as new non runflats says a lot about Michilin.

Cornering, I noticed more roll. I can turn the SAV pretty hard, and this roll increase is noticeable. I haven't brought them to their limit yet, but this roll increase was expected.

That's all for now. Any questions?

RFTs have a stiffer sidewall due to design to allow them to be driven on when flat--that's a normal characteristic of them.

You notice more roll? Side wall stiffness seems to impact the suspension?

Sounds like your perceptions nicely match a preconceived model of what 'softer sidewalls' would do, eh?

Can you feel the difference in the vehicle's unsprung mass?

Are you suggesting it is all in his head? I know anything disparaging to Michelins are fighting words to you, but his comments echo my experience going to non-RFTs.

I'm guessing more roll is from those tires on that side compressing due to no RFT sidewalls.

And don't forget I did go from Michelin Latitude's to Michelin Latitudes.

And for the unsprung mass, no, I could not tell a difference. I'm sure down a 1/4 mile I might be able to see one, but I didn't feel it.
