Have never done an E70 before, but it's underneath, unlike the E53 3.0...
Here is an excellent oil change DIY by TQ2K, on an E53 V8, and it has to similar to your E70. Search Tab is your friend... GL, mD http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...lvetronic.html

OK Bucky, time to tighten up here Bro. Are you going to bitch for the entire time you own this ride or are you going to take a deep breath and get with the program?
Your oil filter is under the truck. You will need some metric Allen wrenches and some ramps at the very least to change the oil in this vehicle. It is not such a big deal. I have done mine several times and as recently as this week. Buy the correct filter from the Dealer or a trusted Indie, buy your oil from the Dealer or Wally-World depending on price. 9 quarts of Castrol Syn 5W/30. Start by removing the fill cap on the right valve cover. The oil filter housing has an allen drain, remove this first. Allow the oil to drain and then remove the plug from the oil pan. Remove the filter housing and allow to drain. Pull the filter out of the bottom of the pan if it did not come out with the housing. Your new filter kit will have two gaskets and one copper washer. The first gasket goes on the oil filter housing plug. The second gasket goes on the oil filter housing cap. The copper washer goes on the oil pan drain plug. Put all of this shizzle back where it came from with new gaskets and copper washer and tighten to ....... who knows ...... probably 19nm as that is a standard BMW torque spec. Drop the truck and pour 9 quarts of oil in to it. Replace fill cap. Quit whining, it is only a damn truck after all. |

Couldn't find the oil filter and drain areas, under the panels, or couldn't find anything on that link? If link, it's a long picture laden post, so scroll down.
Even though it's a DIY from an E53, the process must be very similar to E70. As soldmystang wrote, it isn't that hard...if anxious, go to an Indie, get an oil and filter change, and 'watch' them do it while car is on the lift. GL, mD
