Question X5 Air Strut / Airbag Suspension

My 2007 X5 4.8i just blew the left rear airbag, air strut. Was just wordering if anyone has attempted a DIY on this. I am hoping to attempt myself as the nearest dealership is several hrs away and do not want to drive or haul my wifes baby. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I think you will find that BMW recommends replacement in pairs... parts cost will be $1500+ as I recall.

Personally, I'd be inclined to replace one only...I do wonder WHY they make the recommendation though.

In terms of a DIY, it is basic mechanical stuff, everything is pretty much 'there' once you get it up in the air.
