Help please!
I have a 2007 X5 4.8i. While I was driving this morning, I had a series of warnings and malfunctions pop up on my display (Transmission malfunction, faulty pass restraint system, AWD/DSC malfunction, etc). I attached some pics. I may have had others but I was unable to get a picture of all of them. I pulled over to the side of the road and, as I was unable to put my car in park, I just shut off the engine. I was no longer able to start up my engine and it was as if my battery was dead. Luckily, I had a portable jump starter and I was able to jump start my car and everything was operating fine after that. This is the third time this has happened to me, and each time I was able drive again by jump starting my car. After the first occurrence, I replaced the battery after reading some forums about others who experienced similar problems. I also had my alternator checked out by my local shop, but they found nothing wrong with it. Everything was operating normally for the next several months of replacing my battery, until it happened again twice in the past two days. Fortunately, each time this has happened to me, I was driving in residential areas and I was able to pull over safely but this seems very dangerous especially if I am driving on the highway. Any ideas on what the problem(s) may be? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks |

What PRECISE battery did you use? Was it replaced by a BMW tech using their reset/registration procedures? (This is not critical, but let us know.)
Since the battery replacement addressed this, I suspect something with the battery/discharge/alternator/etc |

I will have to check on the exact battery that was used, but this was not done by a BMW tech and there were not any reset procedures performed.

Well, if it isn't the proper AGM battery, that would be an excellent place to start.

Thanks. I will look into the AGM, if I don't have it already. Is it recommended that I go to the dealer after and have them reset everything? What exactly is involved in these procedures?

I had this happen and it was traced back to a failing alternator. It tested fine but the problem persisted until it was replaced. Car could not properly maintain a charge of a new battery.
