Headlight Lens Restoration/Replacement

My 2011 X5d is approaching 70,000 miles and the headlight lenses are starting to look a little beat. Can you order new lenses or do they come with the assembly? Or what is involved in polishing them? I am pretty experienced when it comes to polishing paint.

I think you need to replace entire unit.

Get 3M headlight restoration or do it yourself with sandpaper. Wet sand starting with ( depending on how bad) 800-1200 grit and work your way up to 2000, then polish with a coarse polish, med polish, finishing polish, and sealer.

Best would be to use a random orbital.

Do a search. Lots of threads on this

Spot on. Did an E39 with 150k+ a few months ago- 400 grit until surface was 'perfectly matte' (ie all dings, chips, scratches gone) then polished back up. Added a film when done.

Get a headlight restoration kit (I used Meguiar's but there are a lot more kits out there) and simply follow the instructions.

I was sceptical at first on how good it will really work, but after seeing it first hand when I used it on my sisters 5 series. I'm convinced.

Much more costly option, get the new headlights with the new LED rings!
