"Parking Brake Fault" got on Goodwill?
Regarding X5 3.0si produced may 2008. As everybody else here I got the "Parking Brake Fault" message. It works after restart and 4-5 days after it shows again... I went to BMW service center and they could read Voltage Drop from the code. Probably the battery they said. Changed the battery and went home.. The day after I got the same massage in Idrive. As I can see here - mostly of the cases has been the parking brake actuator. BMW told me that it could be something with the cables. Now I wonder, has anybody got this reparied on goodwill from BMW? My warranty is gone. As I can se there is 3 options. Actuator, Software or some Cable.. Actuator change cost about 2000§ and I think it is very bad from BMWs side to not take this on goodwill when it seems to be a big issue on X5.. |

Check the parking brake sensor on the right rear wheel. That's where my problem was.

Mine is a 2010 X5 30D,so it was changed under warranty. I did get the fault to go away by jiggling the connection, but it came back. I am in Panama.

It's just a switch that senses the park brake is on. Maybe it can be cleaned up if it's stuck. ----But then it is a Beemer. !

Is it possible to see what software you have in the car? Read that some guys needed a upgrade to fix the yellow light..

Not sure if its the same issue I had but my parking brake locked up on me at work a few months ago on my 2007 3.0si and I was unable to move the car. Even manual release in the trunk couldn't release the parking brakes...
I had the car towed to the dealer and it needed to have its software updated. Even though I was still on CPO warranty they said software upgrades aren't covered and said it would be around $400. I mentioned it was a common issue and how dissatisfied I was about the whole issue. They eventually got BMWNA to cover the tab. After the software update I got newer idrive interface and issue seems to be gone. |
