A SAD SAD Tale

I just had an experience which reinforced my HATRED of car dealers.
These people are the lowest form of life on earth.
I am trying to trade my EX CPO 06 BMW X5 in for a CPO 09 BMW x5.
I am being very specific in what I want in the "new" car, just as I was when I bought the the 06.
So this search has been ongoing and I have been to various local dealers.
Today I called (local dealer) in Ft Lauderdale and spoke to the salesperson I
have spoken to a few times.
They have a car there that they have evidently been unable to sell...priced very high which is very close to what I am looking for.

I stopped in to see if they had reduced the price/deal.
I was VERY SPECIFIC in what I was willing to pay VERY SPECIFIC
After a conversation with the sales person and a phone conversation in which he ASSURED ME that we may be able to make a deal, and that he had spoken to the managers but they had to see my car again.
One more time I reitereated what I was willing to pay and he assured me that he has spoken with his manager and that we were very close
So, against my better judgement I drove over there....they will tell you anything to get you to come in.
Needless to say these lowlife scum must think that I (and most buyers are) morons and was going to fold on what I was willing to pay....To say that they are LIARS is putting it mildly....as far as I am concerned the staff at (local) BMW are a bunch of LOWLIFE
SCUM...believe me as a 35+ year member of the BMW club I will tell anyone
willing to listen about this dealership

The mistake was made when you went back the second time. You have far more power on the phone. The moment you agreed to go back was when you lost. Nothing changed since the initial visit, you looked at their car, they looked at your car. Had you have failed to put the deal together on the phone, you would be the same place you are now, minus the dealer bashing and a whole lotta frustration. Let's face it, we know what they're going to do despite our dreaming it may be better, so why not eliminate the drama altogether and refuse to play their game. It's a business deal, you and they either want to do it or not, pretty basic.

Imo, Lubehead is right on...
It is basic sales 101: get the customer in front of the salesperson, make the offer to customer, then shut up and wait for the customer to say yes, or blink.

The phone discussion/non-vis a vis, was lost when you went back in person.

Not banging on car salespeople, and not defending that specific car hustler, but any basic sales intro course will reiterate the scenario I described above: the face to face situ.

Just an opin: for someone that has been buying/owning BMWs for your 35 yrs, I am surprised you are surprised or upset...

That, and having a very thinly sliced niche of the exact used car you want coupled with your trade intent.

I like rants, but yours is misdirected, imo...

My buddy who is a wholesaler says car dealers get up in the morning thinking of ways to "jack" people. He says he only gets up to "jack' dealers, as he only sells to dealers.

Agree 100%

Here is the painful truth: The more YOU want a SPECIFIC car, the more power they have- and the more emotional the process becomes. You MUST be willing to walk and wait.

I shopped for my 996TT for 8 months. Every day. I had a spreadsheet of cars, configuratons, prices, changes... indeed the car I bought I first saw in month 2. Took 6 more months to have it close, and when I did close it was literally one week from phone call to flying there. Just saying.

One key is NEVER telling them your specifications or hinting that you are looking for what they have..indeed, you should be complaining about 'this is not quite what I want' or 'if it only had...'.

And skip the trade

Here's the deal....they outright LIED...by saying they could make the deal on the phone...I went over my conditions at least 4 times...money down, payment plus my car TWICE AT THE DEALERSHIP and TWICE ON THE PHONE
This is a dealership from whom I have previously purchased 2 cars and where I was having my service done..THEY WILL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN, and I will have no problem telling EVERYONE I come in contact with at BMW club meetings what transpired at LAUDERDALE BMW IN Ft Lauderdale.........
The people (low life managers, the salesman is a sweetheart, he tried) who work at this SCAM INFESTED PIT OF VIPERS are LOWLIFE SCUM
They do this because they are unable to do a real job....
About 8 months ago I bought an 06 997 Porsche for my wife at THE COLLECTION in Miami, smooth deal, couldn't have been nicer people....
My 06 X5 from Braman BMW in West Palm beach was also a pretty smooth deal, too bad its 50 miles away, but after this experience it may be worth the drive again...
As far as what I want in a car, it's my money, I want what I want....no reason to try to screw me....I'm not STUPID, whatever THEY think
My 06 is excellent with only 54,000 miles...I just thought it would be nice to jump up a few years....now who knows...new tires on the 06 and voile

Should have asked for a non-binding 'Sale Sheet' or, offer via email, based on your conversations.

I agree: it's a car. Another one will come up on the JukeBox; if not, then you are seeking a unicorn.
