Question Need advice on fixing rear sun-shade

Right rear roll-up sunshade on my X is not retracting down into the passenger door all the way. It will resist pulling up the top 1/2 of the height of the window, but does not resist or retract back more than that amount. I'm under warranty, but before taking it to the dealer, I'd like to pop the necessary panels off and see if I can fix it myself.

Questions:

1. Has anyone ever removed the necessary panels/pieces to inspect or remove their shade?
2. What is inovled in this? What panels/pieces must be removed, and how (what's screwed on, what pries or slides off)
3. Has anyone ever had this symptom and been able to fix it with or without replacing the rollshade?

Any advice based on experience would be much appreciated. Thanks all in advance for your consideration.

Regards,

Crash

Why do you want to bother if you are under warranty? Be careful, they might say you contributed to the problem by trying to fix it..

You raise a very good point. I have an excellent working relationship with my Service Advisor and the Maanger at my local dealership that we've built over many years and cars. On my last X5, they even let me bring in a cracked colant tank that I had diagnosed which they replaced under warranty so I could get the car back on the road the same day. Of course that does not mean they would not charge me to fix it if I really screwed something up attempting to fix the shade on this car.

My only reason for trying to fix this myself today is that I'm driving 2 of my employees to a 3 day meeting in the San Francisco Bay area tomorrow. We're meeting up with a few more of our staff that are flying in, so I got voluneered to play taxi driver for all 5 of us for the week. It would be nice if I could get the shade working, but if I can't I'll just leave it up and bring it into my dealership next week.

Anyway, still looking for input if anyone has done this before.

^^ Niello? Best service, sales sucks.

Go to realoem, and other parts sites...study the diagrams for the panel- AND the inset pictures of the clips/connectors to figure out where to pry (and where NOT to pry). You can also search for any DIYs here or bimmerfest, but the car is pretty new and the serious DIYs are not yet there.

If it's under warranty, I'd take it to the dealer and let then sort it out. Then if they break any parts (like clips and connectors) in pulling it apart and putting it back together again, then they're responsible for replacing those too.
