Sadly, that assessment is accurate. One of us may spin the ownership of an X5 as being more desirable due to our preference but it is difficult to justify this vehicle over others when looking at durability, value, cost of ownership...etc. I still really like mine though

All those things in the article are true. Failed welds, creaks, rattles..
That being said. I go and test drive the competition once in a while, and despite X5's interior being not as nice, suspension not as forgiving, etc, I keep thinking that I made a right choice.
Drove an Infinity JX35 a few days ago. Interior is great, space and 3rd row are plenty, but my oh my... drives like crap. Hugely underpowered, steering doesn't inspire confidence to say the least (turning the steering wheel does not produce the result you expect after X5). I will keep my X5
