No audio when car is off over night.

Hi everyone,

I hoping someone can help with a weird audio problem that just started. Every morning, when I turn on the radio/MP3/CD it get absolutely no sound. I have to drive the car between 5-10 mins, then I hear the ding/chime sound and the audio starts working. After that, the audio works fine through out the day. The next morning, the audio is gone first 5-10 mins again.

I have a 2007 X5 with CCC I-Drive Premium Sound option. Any input is appreciated.

Try the three finger reset. Press and hold the volume button and both eject buttons for cd and nav DVD drives at the same time until it resets.

This happened in my 2007 4.8 for a bit. I dropped it at the dealer and when I picked it up, they said they had to reprogram the radio unit. With that said, my symptoms were similar to yours, except not. Once in a while, I'd just lose radio period. No chime/ding, nothing. The screen worked, and I could select CD/AUX/SAT but no FM nor AM showed in the list. Odd, right? So, the next day after that would happen, everything would work and be fine. This was over a year ago and I haven't had an issue since.

yea your symptoms are similar but not exactly the same. I can select FM/AM and change stations but just no audio.

I suspect it has something to do with the battery discharging overnight. I'll keep investigating...

Thanks I tried this but still didn't work. Audio finally came back by itself after about 6 mins of driving.

this may be unrelated to your issue but i have experienced a similar problem with my '07. on start-up, the radio would be muted regardless of how the system was performing when the engine was shut down previously. i would have to press the volume button every time i started the vehicle to unmute the system. over time i realized this "bug" was an unintentional warning mechanism that the battery was failing. i purchased the ctek conditioner/charger & i use it when the mute recurs, which clears up the problem instantly. after several uses of the ctek, this rarely happens any longer. it recurs only after the car sits unused for a long period of time.

Uh...really? I thought that was just how BMWs operated. My buddy's 335i does the same thing. It seems more like it's if there's a long duration between start-ups that this happens.

I think most BMW radio/cd is muted automatically when you first start the car. You have to turn off the mute yourself. At least that's how it is with all the newer BMWs.

My problem is not the muting. I've made sure it's not on mute. There's just no audio until 5-10 minutes into the drive. It turns by ON automatically after that.

really. i've owned several bmw's and i've never had one mute the radio on start-up. furthermore, my '07 x5 started manifesting this issue only recently & it occurs regardless of the time interval between start-ups & disappears as soon as i charge it. i'm not stating that this is an intentional programming feature or that it makes sense; i'm simply stating what i've experienced.

none of my previous bmw's ever automatically muted the radio on start-up & my current x5 never did either, until recently. i realize your problem is different than mine, that's why i started my reply with the statement that my issue might be unrelated to yours. my point was simply that our issues are similar (not exact), both vehicles are 2007's, & these vehicles have been known to exhibit odd programming quirks, especially when the battery begins to wane. only trying to help.

So you got a battery tender/conditioner and it fixed your problem?

Maybe I should just replace my battery now, since it's already 5 years old?
