Whats the best place to shop for a warranty??
Who has the best coverage, works directly with dealers so you don't have to front the bill and be reimbursed and has fair prices??? or should I just get one through my SA? Last edited by skunkd; 10-23-2012 at 09:34 PM. |

Only buy the BMW plan. Contact a few sponsors here and over on bimmerfest.
Have you bothered to price one at your SA? Most likely the WORST way to buy one, BTW. Are you sure you want the maintenance plan? If you've recently gotten the brakes done under the 4/50 plan, you probably will do better without... funny thing is to really understand the value it requires people to figure out what they have had done, at what times and miles, and generally they are too lazy to think about it. Preferring to make the decision on the fear of maintenance costs as opposed to actually calculating the expected maintenance over the next two years..... |

Here is link to mother thread on warranty on E53 X5 but the places to shop should hopefully still be good. There are BMW dealers with good prices listed in his thread.

There may be third party plans in some states, but recognize that this is a perfect example of "too good to be true". Past 100k, you are really looking at a high likelihood of a major part failing.. how can a warranty that costs $3200 possibly cover the exposure of these cars after 100k? I am sure you can FIND them. I am sure the STATED warranty sounds good...but they will either be gone or fail to pay the claims if you do have failures...or you will find their interpretation incredibly narrow and restrictive. I purchased an extended warranty with Warranty Direct because the coverage seemed better for a little less money. Just had my first claim last week when my variable speed water pumped went out. Warranty Direct paid $1,000.00 for the claim. I only had to pay $40.00. Let me know if you would like a referral to the gentleman I dealt with at WD. I shopped the warranties very hard and probably called him 10 times...
Good luck, Michael |

I think after reading through that whole post I am going to end up going through BMW for the fidelity platinum warranty. |

Interesting. Why through BMW for a 'fidelity' warranty? or did you mean "BMW Platinum"?
FYI, again- all dealers set different prices, shop around. |

I meant Fidelity platinum, It covers more than the BMW warranty and is for a longer period. It is purchased through the dealerships financial department. You should have a read through that thread posted above it has ton's of information on why this is the best option. that thread has the pricing around the nation and 2-3 are the lowest around. you can buy them by phone you just have to mail them your key and then they ship it back if it's not a local dealership. |
