Did they update the nav maps yet? The 2012 Audi Q5 that I got rid of to get my current X5d had 5 year old poi's and missing addresses and one of the reasons I got rid of the Q5. I spent > $3000 on a nav system and the maps were ridiculously old with no plan for upgrading despite audi and the map manufacturer continually saying "soon" for over 18 months when the maps were already 5 years old.

Seems current. I don't know the vintage of the map in mine though.

The towing specs of the Touareg Diesel vs. X5 Diesel are interesting

Touareg V6 TDI
- 5,000 lbs. Vehicle Weight
- 7,700 lbs. Towing Capacity
- 240 hp
- 405 ft-tq

e70 X5d
- 5,200 lbs. Vehicle Weight
- 6,000 lbs. Towing Capacity
- 265 hp
- 425 ft-tq

Maybe BMW is being conservative on the towing specs, but from those numbers all things point to the X5d having more towing capacity then the Touareg TDI V6

Then there was the V10 Touareg Diesel 2004-2008?
- 4,900 lbs. Vehicle Weight
- 7,700 lbs. Towing Capacity
- 310 hp
- 553 ft-tq

What gives??

Strange I agree.
Actually the Touareg is only rated 225HP, while Q7 and Cayenne with same engine are both rated 240HP.
Maybe these ratings are related to their transmition capabilities more than actual engine power?

@spyderdoc: 77mph@2000rpm is 10% taller gearing than X5, that can easily explain the 3mpg better highway rating improvement over X5.

I will test drive the cayenne diesel tomorrow, wife wants diesel to replace her thirsty Q7 (3.6l engine) and to get better acceleration like on my X5... so we'll see how it goes.

The 2013 Touareg and Cayenne both have 240HP. The 2012 Touareg had 225HP....The drivetrain is the same as the Cayenne and has same mileage and performance (0-60, etc) stats.

Let us know how your test drive of the Cayenne goes!

I prefer the X5 approach to front sensors. Does the VW have top view cameras too?

Also is there an iPhone app available for the VW. Can you send locations from Google maps?

No, no and no. The Treg is lacking a bit on the tech items if you asked me. The backup camera is ok but their auto on/off sensors are FAR better vs my X5

How are they better, aside from the front sensors being always on? I find that I rely much more on the X5s top view cameras than the sensors or even the review camera.

As far as NAV systems go, I am happy the X5 NAV doesn't have a touch screen and even happier that it integrates with Google.

Based on your comments, for me at least, the BMW electronics are far superior to the VWs.
