Have you checked oil level? Maybe sensor going bad?

low PRESSURE? or low LEVEL?

One is an annoyance, the other possibly quite a bit more....

the message went away as soon as a parcked the car in 2 minutes

Curious of the outcome. Good luck.

I would check the oil level first. I would expect that when you accelerated hard, you starved the oil pump for a moment.

Boy, I hope not...that could be the kiss of a (slow) death.

Had exactly same issue with my 2008 4.8. On full throttle would show "Red Low Oil Pressure" message. Oil level according to both iDrive and dipstick was fine, so I went to dealership and essentially the moment rpm reaches ~2.5K, the light will show and then go away almost immediately. Dealer replaced Oil Pressure Switch and problem went away... Here is what work order says:

----
C/S RED OIL PRESSURE LIGHT IS ON
MALFUNCTIONING OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
ISID TEST NO FAULTS CHECK OIL LEVEL IDRIVE AND MANUL STICK
LEVEL OK CHECK FOR LEAKS NONE FOUND TEST OIL PRESSURE AS PER
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS 30 PSI. PRESSURE OK MIN. 1BAR
REPLACE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH CLEAN OFF ENGINE ROAD TEST OK AT TIME

PART 12-61-7-568-480 OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
----

Hope this helps.

^^ Good info. on the 996tt this is a fairly common fault, but had not read it with the X5.

For less than $20, thats an easy fix.

HOWEVER, OP says:

Quote:
it sounds like world war 3...

(nothing like full sentences and concepts in a post...)but if the engine was making noise along with the warning, I am no sure a flakey sensor is the story...

Agreed, if there were also any abnormal engine noises, etc... I would've not driven the car to the dealer but rather flatbed it (especially since mine is still under CPO).

I think what OP meant by
Quote:
it sounds like world war 3
is the way the warning is written/displayed (something about imminent engine failure) and how the chime sounds. It is indeed pretty scary.
