BMW X5M 50 idrive full engine power no longer available

Hello everyone,

We just bought a new BMW from the UK about 6 months ago, a BMW X5M 50 i drive. A couple of months ago we started getting a problem: full engine power no longer available and our mechanic thought it was the spark plugs which he got changed and he also said there was a p3053 error code which he said was the 5th cyclinder misfiring (I couldn't find this on google though) and he rectified it. I have read that it can be a fuel pump issue. The car sometimes doesn't start on the first ago and then the error disappears if you switch it off and then on again. However sometimes the engine light stays on with the message about full engine power no longer available showing. The car shudders at slow speeds and there is very little power when trying to accelerate. Does anyone have any ideas of what to look for?

Thank you

Is it under a BMW warranty? (I assume if 'new' then yes, unless you exported it from the UK and lost the warranty....)

Does this mechanic have access to the BMW computer system for diagnosis? That code is a generic code, and NOT a BMW code....

Check ignition coils. You can swap the coil with another cylinder and see if the code move to another cylinder

Hello,

Thank you for your responses. We have exported the car so no, it doesn't have warranty, The mechanic came today and connected the diagnostic machine thing to the ECU to show me and it said cylinder 5 misfiring. He has already changed all the spark plugs but said that he has ordered better ones and that would fix the problem. Can you give me a heads up if that is the correct thing to do? He said he has already changed the ignition coils. Thanks

If he has the right machine connected to the vehicle he can also tell if the misfire is from the spark or fuel. The misfire may also be caused by a bad fuel injector. This can be diagnosed the same way as a coil by swapping injector with another cylinder.

This is an amazing disaster.... you must be rich to be able to take such risks!

The mechanic has no idea what he is doing..a brand new BMW doesnt come with 'wrong' spark plugs..and why should only cylinder 5 need a 'better' sparkplug??

You need an expert BMW mechanic. Are there no BMW dealerships there?
