Replace rear 12V power socket point

Hi

I got myself a dash cam and I am routing the power cable to the 12V socket point in the centre console rear seat area. I have routed cable to centre console, but now need some advice.

My intention is to run the cable just underneath the plastic trim (on side of centre console) and into the rear console trim piece that locates(holds) the 12V power socket. I want to pop the socket out, splice my power cable to it and re-insert the 12V socket, so its a hidden connection.

I have seen the pdf's that show carpet removal and rear plastic trim removal. However my trim only has the 2 12V socket points - no rear DVD, 4way air con, rear heated seat switchs etc. The 12V points are on a rectangular trim part which is held on the overall rear console trim part.

My question is, can the 12V sockets be removed from the smaller rectangular trim part, or can the rectangular trim part be removed seperatly from the rear console part without having to remove carpets and whole rear trim piece.

Thanks

are you already using up the 12V socket under the glove compartment? could be easier to get to...

Didn't realise there was 12V socket located here. car is 2011 (2012 build yr). Where about specifically is the socket?

EDIT - Had a quick check, don't think I have a 12V outlet below glove compartment. Car is UK spec - 1 x cigarette 12V in front console, 2 x 12V outlet in rear console for rear passengers, 2 x 12V oulets in rear boot/trunk area.

on my E53 and E90 it is located in the passenger footwell area, behind the glove compartment, in the "ceiling" area, covered either with a plug or spring loaded plug.

worth checking to see if it is there for you...

UPDATE

e70 has no power point in footwell. Small rectangular panel where rear power points are located in centre console pops of (prise from bottom with credit card or similar) to access power socket wiring. Took my power source from this location.
