I quoted what Sylvan said, and I am saying it isnt 'normal'. If it is 'normal', I'd ask the dealer for the SIB telling them this is normal
On your issue, if you throw a CEL and the dealer says 'there is no code' I'd ask them to document the fact that the car is illuminating the CEL and not trapping a code- as required by OBD regulations! That alone is a warrantable claim under the federal warranty.
the dealer likely cleared the codes, then found nothing currently present- but they 'lost' the original code.
