Hello all. I am going to need to do all 8 spark plugs at some point for my 2012 N63 V8. I have no expectation that it is the same as described in this thread (possibly even more junk to move out of the way first...)
Does anyone have any DIY or links to help me on this one? I searched YouTube and have not found any videos on exactly my engine. (Except the one neat animation showing why you cannot use a straight extension on these, with the 5-deg bend. Greeeaaat.)
If anyone has info I would appreciate it if you emailed it to me:
Toddggg at Gmail.
THANKS!

**** EDIT *****
I have a DIY write up here now:

Spark Plug Change DIY - N63 V8

I think the 5.0L will be the same as the 4.8L E70. Read this post again it will save you a lot of time.
7 are easy, #8 may or may not be trouble.
you gently spin it as you raise it till you hit the exact position and it will slip out.
I know I needed a strap pulling on the bottom to do this the first time but I had to go back and fix a valve cover leak and was able to slip it out with more experience the second time. Good Luck
The OEM plugs will go 100,000 miles or more. If your computer is not getting any misfires and your MPG has not dropped they are still good.

You mean the 4.4L, not the 5.0L.

Actually, I'm going to do this on my S63 which is basically a clone of the N63. So, I will say the engine is physically smaller than the N62 (I had a 4.8i), I actually think it will be easier to get at the plugs then on the 4.8i. The 4.4L engines also sit lower in the engine bay because of the extra clearance needed for the turbos. Just have multiple length extensions and some joints.

Spark Plug DIY 4.8I V8

I finally have it done. See if my DIY helps.
It was pretty easy except for the drivers rear one.

Old thread but had to say thank you!!! Please pry the top plastic locking clip on the fu@@en coil and there will be no issues removing or reinstalling the SOB!

One additional tip that may make the job a tiny bit easier... Since a number of the spark plugs are in hard to reach places, you may find yourself in this situation:

Removed old plug, no problem!
Installed new plug, no problem!
Try to remove tools and spark plug socket doesn't want to come back out even though your extension/s do. Problem! Now you have a spark plug socket you have to somehow fish out with pliers or some other method. I've seen a bunch of posts about this and have experienced it myself once or twice. Very frustrating.

My own personal solution was to take some thread, wrap it around the socket a couple of times and then secure it using electrical tape. At the other end of this long thread I put a bit of tape on the end, sort of as a makeshift handle or 'pull', so no matter what that socket will always come out.

Just did the removal process in less than an hour no drama to speak of the information here was helpful. I started with the hardest one and I found that a little bit of manipulation up and around got the coil out. New parts are showing up tomorrow so I’ll get a chance to perform the adage "installation is the reverse of removal."
