2007 4.8 Thoughts??? Please reply:)

Hi Everyone,

I posted before on the possibility of a 4.8is. I am not green to BMWs at all, just SUVs, from what I have read online, I am not sure if I want to get myself into one. I currently drive a 2008 Volvo XC90 but want to get rid of it because it is EXTREMELY boring to drive...I'm looking at a 2007 4.8 tech. with 20" Y spoke wheels for $27998 with 76kms on it from a BMW dealership...

Thoughts or am I nuts...

Cheers

Well, coming from the Volvo you surely will appreciate the step up in reliability!

Its an SUV. SAV is some BS marketing spin.

I recently got the 2008 e70 4.8 with the 20's, so pretty much what you are looking for.
I like the truck over all but it is not an easy thing to work on.
Since I work on my own cars, so far I had a bit of difficulty finding out my way around.
As for the truck: it does not drink gas.. I think it gulps it. I average about 15 miles to a gallon. So about 300 in city and 380 on highway for $80 a tank.
Parts are not too cheep but also can be got from Import Part Stores.
An example here would be an O2 sensor that BMW sales for 300 vs same unit from Import Parts Supply for 180.
There are things that fail on this truck and some I have noticed are Suspension bags (I now have two new in the back), engine gaskets and plastic makes cheep and squicky noise.
Coming from an Audi (still have it), BMW seems to be a cheaper car, unfortunatly my X5 cost twice what my A4 did cost.

Ohh well.
Good Luck.

I've driven the XC90. The X5 handles much better and I like the interior layout and look. YMMV.
Longest vehicle I've owned in a while. 16 months. Read, I haven't gotten bored with it.

Thanks for the replies guy! Your X5 sounds like the one that I am interested in. I do have a great Indy shop that I have gone to for years with my 3 series. I am just worried about overall reliability. I do love the appearance of the X, always have.

Will definitely keep everyone posted

The '07s were the newbie model change, from E53 to E70, as you may know...
Some report few problems; others suggest they didn't have the kinks and glitches worked out.

Low miles for that MY, which may be good. Dlr is sort of biting you, but I don't know CDA pricing; your fellow posters in YYZ land may chime in.

I would demand a complete history of the car, (any work done by a BMW dlr should be in the 'system'), and I would ask if you can drag it to your Indie for an objective PPI.

They are not trifles to repair, parts or labor, and your mpg will be barely so-so, esp in traffic.
Other posters should have some opins, too...

^ try and obtain the vehicle service history and you will see if it's a problematic car. Not all E70s are created equal. But as said above, the '07s may be more prone to issues since it's a first-model-run.

I am going to take a look at it on Thursday! All I know so far is that the X was registered in British Columbia for the last 7 years. Their winters are much more mild than they are in Ontario.
