My fiance has the same GTI with DSG but in white and it seriously puts a grin on my face every time I drive it. The only complaint I get is how much fuel we use when I drive it compared to her!

One of the best bang for buck hot hatches out there! Wish ya all the best with it! You won't be missing the weight of the X5 but you may miss the space!

I already miss the leg room, I'm 6'4". The GTI is a bit tight, but it's worth it for the go-cart-ness and the fuel economy. I'm overall very impressed with the price:power ratio from the factory. I can't imagine what a Stage 1 ECU tune will do...that ups it to 250-300hp and about the same for ft-lb.

Anyway, there are a few things that I already forgot I don't have, such as HUD and comfort access. Anyway, it's whatever, life will go on.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. I will pop in here and there to say what's up.

You'll be back in 6 months I briefly considered the 3 series bcuz it was fun to drive and seemed to not even really use gas but after a week of crawling in and out of it I was done.

So, after almost two months with the GTI, I've got to say that I miss my X5 less and less. That's not to say that I don't miss it at all. I definitely miss the "luxury" the X5 offered over what the GTI has to offer. However, that was part of my initial decision to go with a base GTI--to go back to basics and skip all of the "luxury" and the goodies. I miss the HUD the most. I've gotten over my lack of Comfort Access and have retrained myself how to hit the unlock button on my FOB, and how to insert and turn a key in the ignition.

Overall, I'm satisfied. I wouldn't say that I'm overly happy with my choice, but I am content. With a wedding on the horizon and perhaps finally buying a place, I think it was also the right financial decision. I used to splurge on my vehicles, because it was always a hobby of mine. Now, I see them for what they are: transportation. I have a 10-mile roundtrip commute every day, and I can't justify the sub-10-mpg I was getting in the X5.

I miss the X5 the most on the FDR due to its sheer power and manuverability, as my fiancé touches up her makeup in the mirror--complete refinement is what my X5 offered. Another thing I miss are these forums. The GTI forums on other sites are littered with teenagers who think that their "refined" fwd "sports hatch" is the best thing since sliced bread. I've tried to tell them that their cars are just ho-hum commuter cars with a turbo, but no one believes me. Even the X5 doesn't touch true luxury, in my opinion...but what can I say? For under $24k out the door, I'm happy. That's a third the price of a new V8 X5.

Either way, glad to share my experience with everyone who cared. See ya's around!

Aw man you do not sound like a happy camper. its like a buddy that knocked up a beast and has decided to do the 'right' thing and is miserable while his friends are still out there running around with dimes.

I, too, made a drastic change.....going from an M3 (..I've owned 3 E46 M's and 2 E9X M's) to the X5. I think I also just needed a change. I thought that I'd miss my M3 more, but after a few days without it I am surprisingly fine. I've been in the X going on 2 weeks now, and I'm loving it more and more each day. I have been bitten by the mod bug (..as usual), so it is already going through some changes, but it's a fun adventure. I'll probably be back in an M4 when this lease is up.

couldnt agree more with what people have said...but end of the day..different horse for a different course..you get the luxury and pleasure cruising with the x5 but its a pain in the a$$ navigating car parks...whereas the gti is a hot hatch which is a fun, little spartan car that can zip in and out of places without even thinking about it.
