the cell phones (and some other electronics) used to have a white dot (sometimes flat, sometimes fuzzy) that would turn color (usually red) upon contact with water... so, the cell phone companies would decline the warranty for water damage... you can do a search on ebay for water tamper dot, they sell them in big sheets...

not to say that you need them for your electronics, just saying that they had means of knowing about the water damage...

Thanks Ard
They suck.

As I recall this is one of the only dealerships owned and run by BMWNA- they will surely make sure you get screwed.

Why do you go there?

Yeah, for iphones they have a little optical device that lets them look into the headphone jack to see the dot.....

I go there because is close to my house, but if they cant fix it, I guess I will take it someplace else, who cares about my issue more

Thanks JayDee, do you have any numbers or Service Rep name, I will say you referred me, and is funny, this is where I bought my first x5 2001, from there.

So I took it in, to bmwnyc, they saw the water damage, my full bmw warranty just finished, so this is not covered, my aftermarket covers whatever breaks but no water damage, bmw said I need something called CIC or CCC, and SDARS for satellite, Anyone know where I can get these parts, they want to charge me like 4k for all the work, I told them they must be out their mind..

blue dragon will become famous soon enough
CIC or CCC is the navigation unit, neither is stored in the trunk. The components in the trunk are the amplifer, the TCU module (Bluetooth, assist) and the Sdars module (satellite radio). Your best bet is to search recyclers http://www.car-part.com

totally not surprised....why didnt you shop for a store where theyd not say 'water damage'??? or at least not got to BMWNYC?

Horse>>Water>>??

4k is a reasonable dealer price for those two modules plus programming....you can look for the CIC at BMWofsouth atlanta dot com, but recognize that it needs maps loaded and programming...
