Water got in my trunk, damage my electronics
I have no idea how so much water got in the rear left side of my x5 2009, now I get no sound of my car, seat belt sound not working, sos malfunction error, gps is working but no sound, anyone knows what part(s) I need to replace, I saw like 5 different thing back there. Do you know if after market extended warranty will cover this? I am in NYC if anyone knows of what can I do

you got E70, i am not familiar with the layout of the car... but, basing on the E53 and the other BMW that i had, chances are that your radio module has gone south... the radio is probably next to the battery, and the battery is sitting in a tub... probably, the tub is full of water...
water might have gotten into the trunk via clogged sunroof drains... in your case - left side... try to blow compressed air through it |
Have you bothered to actually read your warranty?!?!?! You are the best person to know what is covered- take the document, read it.... to ask us is ... astonishing.
As mentioned above, probably the sunroof drains allowed water to collect. It will be expensive. Bring it to a dealer and ask for an estimate. |
Also check your rear tail lights, the ones on the hatch. They tend to leak. A telltale sign will be if you see condensation inside the lenses.

My point is that there are hundreds, maybe thousands of "aftermarket warranties"...how could we possible give you an answer? Here is a BIG TIP: 1. Read your warranty. Understand the terms and conditions. 2. Figure out what is wrong with the car 3. if the warranty excludes water damage but might otherwise cover the amp, or other electronics, then act accordingly.... clean up the water issue, then separately point out the amp stopped working. I'm 99.99% sure if you bring in water logged modules, there is no warranty anywhere that will cover that. GL A |

"Repair Advantage Max Our premium service contract, Repair Advantage Max, supplements the manufacturer’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty by offering comprehensive mechanical repair coverage for virtually every mechanical and electronic vehicle component as installed or supplied by the vehicle manufacturer' Question do you think they will be able to tell if anything got wet, after everything is dried? Or they will just see the thing as getting fried? I was trying to take pictures with my iphone, they did not come out well, My electronics are on the rear left, battery is also rear left, and the water did not get in any clog hose, it got in by the rear light, there is a little flap for some reason that came apart, I have no idea how.. |
^^ Good work.
The key will be the mechanic/tech doing the work- water damage can usually be discerned, but it depends how hard he looks and how motivated he is to be thorough with the warranty company. (How many people bring cell phones into the store and say "It just stopped working") This is a dicey situation- as you can see. Do you have a relationship with the people doing the work such that you can say "I need the warranty to cover this- if you guys go to bat for me I'll take care of you"? "You dont need to lie, but you know how warranty people can be"...that sort of thing. Ethically this is all a bit of a tightrope, each of us needs to figure out how comfortable we are with a particular path. A PS There is a great video/story of someone brining in a video camera that 'just stopped working, no idea why''. The store got it open, played the tape: you see a kids birthday party, the camera is moving around, people, kids, swimming pool- then all of a sudden someone yells 'woah', camera pans up, and next think the water in the swimming pool closes over the lens.... |

Thanks for the tips, and advice, I been taking my car bmw there for years, from my x5 2001 to this 2009, but is BMW of Manhattan, and to be honest I never gotten a break. I hope they don't give me a hard time. Thanks Ard |
