The 199 miles warning with CEL, emissions and DEF errors, sounds similar to what we called our Diesel Downer experience, last fall. Turned out to be a software error in the engine control subsystem, repaired by rolling back to an earlier software version. They were chasing EGR and other sensors as possible culprits.

The servicing dealer mentioned it made the BMW NA new issue database.

F1 is correct. SCR tank was defective, replaced free of charge as it was replaced before.

They also replaced the metering unit (with participation from bmw), all is well now.

Update. The EGR cooler was busted and the wife started to complain about the smell. I started to investigate and discovered BMW now has a full recall on the EGR problem.

Got the truck back Friday and runs like charm, no more smell!!
