40d M Sport Died

Hi All, has anyone had the front tail/drive shaft snap a uni joint and come loose and smash a hole in the sump?
I heard a weird unbalanced sound/grind before a bang. I immediately pulled over and shut it off. On inspection I noticed oil pouring out of the engine. Had to get towed to the nearest BMW dealer (150kms away which is 500kms from home) and now there are no sumps in Australia and I've got to wait 10-14 days before one gets here. Then the time to fix.
Lucky I've still got warranty.

For anyone that is interested, my X5 still hasn't been repaired. I've been told the parts have been ordered but BMW have no way of knowing when the parts will arrive. COME ON BMW, 4 weeks so waiting for parts to arrive for a current model car (e70) isn't good enough. They don't even know whether the parts have been sent.
I doubt my next car will be a BMW, and when it's time to update my wife's e90 we'll be looking elsewhere.

Yes I'm well aware that things break and I was ok with it when it happened but the repair process for ordering parts is apauling. I mean come on, they still don't know when the parts will leave Germany. This is a current model not a 20 year old classic.

took them 10 days to get my sunroof fixed. I get the frustration but at the end of the day any mfg could screw the pooch and then your sitting there frustrated in a goddamn mdx or some other neutered POS.

sorry to hear that, do you know what was the issue? did they have to replace the whole new tail/drive shaft? what causing the oil leak from the engine?

All I've been told was the front drive shaft came loose or broke and smashed in to the side of the sump which caused a hole for the oil to drain out.
As soon as I heard the bang I pulled I over and shut it down.
All I'm pissed at is BMW have no idea when the parts will arrived to repair & they have said they have no option on tracking the order. I think 5 weeks with still no idea when the parts will leave Germany is a joke.

you should ask for a courtesy car given it is a warranty repair. did you take the car back to your dealer?

Yeah, the X5 was towed to the nearest BMW dealer. I was given a room for the night and was given a Camry hire car. I've cancelled 2 snow trips since my car has been off the road and on Monday I was offered an SUV so now I've got a Prado. I can't complain with the customer service but with the not knowing when the parts will leave Germany isn't good enough.
