Blowing Rock, NC

My first trip to the mtns in the '13 x35d. Have to say I am thrilled with the handling on these gorgeous mtn roads. A completely different experience from my previous 2005 Range Rover (with the BMW 4.4 V8). I can't wipe the grin off my face. Love love love this ride!
The transmission is always in the perfect gear and the torque hauls me and two buddies around impressively! I love carving up these roads!

If you are still here in Western NC, and would like some more recommendations on great two lane roads, routes, TTD, let me know...I have driven/ridden nearly every good two lane blacktop in 9+ counties of far western NC. Post, or DM me...

I agree: fabulous, mostly empty roads, cool little towns, great scenery, fun stuff.

Agreed, there's a lot of excellent driving roads out here. The only problem in the Blowing Rock/Boone/Beech Mtn area is that there's a ton of Floridians who drive under the speed limit. NC 184 up to Beech Mtn is one of the toughest roads in that area; my X3 sees it many times a year.

But that's where the torque of the diesel helps when overtaking is permitted
