Corroded on the contact inside the light.....mine has the same problem and just bought a set from eBay

But make sure buy some new gasket before installing the new taillights if not it will end up the same problem again

New one yes but not the used one, new one cost almost 250 a piece and they is a guy selling the whole set for 220 at bimmerfest forum, I almost buy it from him but a get a better deal at ebay and I paid less than 150 for the whole 4 tai lights

Just replaced both inner brake lights with used set from ebay, and bought a set of the gaskets from stealership....works perfecto

i took mine apart last night hoping to possibly clean the corrosion off of the contacts and get it to work again. Sadly, it did not work. I guess i'll be fleabaying a new driver's side.
