What did you wind up using to get those out? I attempted to change my filter yesterday and only got as far as realizing that there's no way my current Torx socket is going to work.

I ended up using a mini ratchet (the kind where the bit head sits in the socket). Even then you can only get them loosened to a point. Used a small pair of channel locks to get them the rest of the way out.
