Oil leak?

I have oil on my driveway. A considerable amount actually. I don't remember seeing this particular leak posted here. Apparently there is an O-ring next to / behind the alternator bracket on the lower RF of the block. My Indie has quoted me 12 hours labor. Yeehaw.....

Anyone here heard of this one before?

Yep .... mine is in now for the same thing. Original quote was 9.4 hours. Since I also had an oil leak behind the timing chain cover they negotiated a lower hourly charge.

Finally got this fixed.

$20 parts

$1050 labor.

Had I gone to the dealer the price would have been closer to $1800. Word has it that the dealer is seeing more of these repairs as the 2007 / 2008 models age into the repair. Gaskets are plastic and they become brittle over time.

My Indie suggested I sell the truck before it reaches 200K miles since I am likely to see this issue again in another 100K or so.

Is this strictly on the 4.8 again, kind like the V8 valley coolant leak?

Does anyone know if this can be done without dropping the sub frame?

Can't swear to it but with two sets of hands working on it I believe so.

I had this same issue at 54,000 miles. BMW ended up covering the repair which had been estimated at $2100. I recommend asking your service advisor to check with BMW.
