Anyone here heard of this one before?

Yep .... mine is in now for the same thing. Original quote was 9.4 hours. Since I also had an oil leak behind the timing chain cover they negotiated a lower hourly charge.

Finally got this fixed.
$20 parts $1050 labor. Had I gone to the dealer the price would have been closer to $1800. Word has it that the dealer is seeing more of these repairs as the 2007 / 2008 models age into the repair. Gaskets are plastic and they become brittle over time. My Indie suggested I sell the truck before it reaches 200K miles since I am likely to see this issue again in another 100K or so. |

Is this strictly on the 4.8 again, kind like the V8 valley coolant leak?

120 k miles. 4.8 block only I believe.

I had this same issue at 54,000 miles. BMW ended up covering the repair which had been estimated at $2100. I recommend asking your service advisor to check with BMW.
