The BMW throttle delay (from standstill) makes me do the same thing. When pulling out into moving traffic I have to apply a decent amount of throttle to overcome the 0.5 sec lag to get it started then almost ease back once it gets going. I even tried Dinan to eradicate it with no luck. I switch daily between a car with a throttle cable and the X5 so it is always noticeable to me.

The throttle reset is a message board myth as far as I am concerned. Might have been something to it years ago.
