Tailgate won't open; video included

The tailgate was working normal until a friend inadvertantly manually shut the tailgate versus using the electronic close button. Using the tailaget release in the instrument cluster, on the key fob, and on the tailgate itself result in the same response as seen in the video. I tried removing fuses 99 and 121 based on the fuse diagram in an attmept to release the latch and open manually but these fuses don't seem to effect operation at all. Could it possible be the lower tailgate is not closed completely? Any thoughts, comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Did you try to push in both upper and lower from the outside? Lower could be loose causing the latch to stick.

I did and it didn't have an effect unfortunately.

Any chance anyone can tell me which fuses should cut off power to the rear latch?

I had both power struts replaced under EVP warranty for the same issue. The SA told me that only one strut was broken and it will throw a code that can be read. When one strut breaks, the other one won't receive power either. Good luck!

Great info thanks! Will a code be present even if I don't get a Control message in iDrive? Also, is it possible to overcome the strut by pulling it open? As you can see in the video even applying light pressure with my foot doesn't get it to break open. I nervous to use to much force.

I could fairly easily open/ the tailgate manually, although with some resistance and it made the same sound as if it were being opened/closed with the motors. Maybe your damaged power strut is binding. I believe the code is a BMW specific code and it read something like "open circuit passenger lift strut".
