Won't shift out of Park?!?
Anyone with this problem? Is this a precursor to a failing component or just a freak incident? |

I thought the same- perhaps a frozen door contact?...but then I seemed to recall that you CAN shift to D or R, with a foot on the break, BUT it shifts back to P when you release the brake. He was saying it would not leave P, which I think is a different behavior. No?

I don't have a break and brake pedal in mine, is that a Euro option?

This has happened to me a handful of times (maybe 5) in the 5 years I've had it. First time was 1-2 years in so it's not really a sign of something "starting to fail". Each time it's fine after re-starting. Think it's just an electronic glitch.
If it were because the door is ajar, it would still shift to D, then shift you back to P when you start rolling and put up a message.

It is surprising how often that word is misspelled, no it's definitely not a euro thing, check out any domestic car marque forum and you'll see plenty of posters who have breaks on their cars. I wonder though if they have to take brakes at work, or indeed, what happens when something brakes?

I haven't had the issue since then. I'm assuming it was a "glitch". I have the soft close feature so its either totally open or totally closed.

We have had very cold temps and snow in Chicago. I had some snow built up in the door jamb but didn't realize it was enough to actually cause this issue because the door would close and no "Drivers door open" error was displayed. I put the car in D/R and it would immediately jump to park when I took my foot off the brake. I had to drag the brake to get the car going. Once moving, all was good.... It was not until I got home and cleaned out the jamb, issue solved.
