E70 Service Manual on Tradebit.com from repair4less

I paid $9.95 to download it in hopes that it would provide some basic info on how to change the engine oil (such as where the drain plug is located). But it's not a Service Manual at all. It's a training manual that was apparently prepared to tell dealer techs what was new on the X5 at the time, and I've seen it available for free in other places on the web. The website claims "this manual covers every service and repair imaginable, from oil changes to rebuilding the transmission. Perfect for the DIY person!!!" Well, it doesn't discuss how to change the engine oil at all, and it most certainly doesn't tell you how to rebuild your trans. Granted it might be an interesting read for many of us, but it's certainly not as advertised. I sent them an email telling them that if they did not immediately refund my $ I would instruct my credit card provider to charge them back. The description of the manual is blatantly false.

Why bother sending them anything? Charge it back, move on.

Thanks, I've never heard of it. Did a search on the internet, and it appears to be diagnostic software. I'm just looking for a service manual that would help me with basic work like oil changes, brakes, filters, coolant and fluid changes, etc. Would Rheingold include that? Again, appreciate the response.

Just search for BMW TIS on ebay...$10-12 is all you need. I must admit I also paid for that BS on tradebit when I was in a pinch...wasted my $10 but I moved on it wasn't worth my time.

Question on this older post

I am looking to find a useful repair manual for the E70. I see the Rheingold setup for my vehicle is $79 for software or $139 for software and cable.

I was wondering if this software is detailed enough to provide steps to access a component for repair or replacement? For example, I need the steps required to disassemble the vehicle to access the headlight to replace the ballast?

It seems most of these so-called sources of instruction show how to fix the exact item, but contain no instruction on how to access it. In my case, I have found info that shows how to unscrew the ballast from the light assembly and put in a new one, but nothing on how to actually get to it.

On an editorial note: It seems like all third-party DIY support stopped with the E53. Bentley, Peake, TIS, and even the How To's on this very site all seem to have given up for the E70 and later. Not sure if that has anything to do with later models just being more difficult to work on for DIYers, lack of interest by previous providers, or all the above. I had an E53 for 13 years, and I can't imagine newer models being much harder to work on than that was.

Thanks in advance.

Same nonsense, different seller

Also avoid eManualOnline at all costs. They are selling the same vehicle overview that has absolutely nothing in the way of repair instructions. It looks like there are several other retailers selling the same thing. They will refuse to issue any refund insisting it is a repair manual while also creating more frustration than a seized bolt or a faulty EGR component on your X5 ever could.

If you see any writeup like this, do yourself a favor and run away...
