Anyway I thought it's no biggy,as the car was very cheap so I've thought about looking into retrofitting the xenon headlights. Not the standard xenons but the current LCI LED Corona types as fitted to all current E70 models. My car has halogen headlights fitted currently but does have the headlight wash function fitted, this I thought would be very helpful for the retrofit. I've done as much research as I could and haven't really found too much, the questions been asked many times but never fully answered or completed it seems. I know delviacv2 from this forum successfully retrofitted these LED corona's xenons to his x5 but I believe that he already had standard xenons fitted already. I realise that there will be a number of things required and I've already acquired a large portion of these, I have a pair of the headlights, complete with all xenon ballast packs, control units and bulbs fitted, absolutely complete ready to fit. I've also ordered an FRM3 from a 2012 x5 that will be required to be fitted also I believe. The main stumbling block that i'm thinking will be the headlight connectors, I assume the halogen pre-lci are going to be quite different from the ones required for the xenons. This is where I would like as much help and input as possible from you guys the experts really. What exactly do I need to do next, where can I obtain the diagrams for the wirings etc? and do you know how easy setting up the self levelling would be? Is the wiring already in place? I read it possibly is on another forum? I'm willing to do the work required, no matter how big or small it is. The headlights I've got aren't adaptive xenons, they are just the non adaptive types from a 2012 I believe. I'm hoping if possible to be able to complete this retrofit and then put together some sort of guide for others in the future to then be able to attempt if they wanted. Any help and input would be greatly appreciated, I will need someone to help me with the coding too, I have autologic diagnostics which I use for my own business but I believe i'll need someone to do the coding remotely as I don't have a cable for the pc connection. I'll of course pay for this to be done and anything else required, look forward to your responses and sorry for the epic first post! thanks! :P |

Purchase the LCI headlights
Purchase the FRM3 (foot well module) Code the car (change the order date and code the FRM) Thats it. If you want the coronas to dim when the lights are on, you will need to run one additional wire from the FRM to the headlight. <edit> I just realized that you said you had the halogens I think that the wiring is different and you will need to move some wires at the connector. Your best bet would be to look in WDS to see what the pinout differences are between the xenons and halogens

Sorry to bump this, when doing this retrofit on a pre-lci do you need to change the fenders aswell? Or do the headlights fit the same?
Also, my E70 2008 is a non-xenon headlights, do I need any other modules? I assume I need to change my light switch since it has headlight height adjusment |

You need a copy of WDS which has the wiring for the headlight harness.Look at the wiring differences, you may have to move some pins around on the headlight connector. Don't come here asking to be spoon fed, do some research/work yourself, then ask questions.
We can help with the coding, but unless one member has done the work that I mentioned, you are going to have to do that yourself.

Not asking to be spoon fed, my question was totally separate to the original posters. If you read my post you would have seen I asked if the headlights fit with pre-lci fenders/bumpers.

^^ The headlights will fit the same, even LCI/pre-lci headlights all mount the same. You will need to change the switch, you will need to change the FRM, and you will most likely have to repin the headlight connector. You need to confirm this yourself.
Then you will need to modify the FA and code FRM and CAS

Well that's great news. I have located the LED headlights complete with ballasts, bulbs and FRM3. Coding will be done by a friend but I just needed to be sure that they physically fit before I took the plunge.
Thank you. |

^^ When you say LED headlights, you mean the LED corona rings? The full LED headlights only fit the X6 or X5m. The bumper and fenders are different.
Make sure the FRM3 is the correct one, early 2010 - mid 2011 cars came with the FRM3, but its the wrong one to work with the LED halos. I suggest you read this thread first, there is lots of useful info in there http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...my-e70-x5.html
