Even if you need an entire new nav/entertainment system, it doesnt 'require' a dealer visit. Stay away from them.
There is a WEALTH of info on this stuff- search here in the subforum and over on bimmerfest. |

Does the car struggle in start due to low battery, check alternator current and battery health. Is everything stock, what kind of nav do you have?
Worst to worst, replace nav will save you a fortune compared to visiting dealership, they will charge you an arm and leg to replace it. Unless you are covered under some sort of warranty. |

I do not have a solution, but can report the same issue with my 2008 and 2012 X5. I have taken both to the dealer with this issue more than once but no resolution as they would not replace the screen even under the original factory warranty.

I've tried doing a manual reset by holding both eject buttons (the one for the cd and the one below for the navigation disc) and pressing the radio mute dial. The system restarts but still malfunctions after about a minute or two. I'll keep searching forums to see if I come up with a solution and post any helpful info I find.

X5 CAN Buss
I had the same issue and it was noise on the CAN Buss replaced receiver head behind screen ( no nav on mine) cleared the problem a year ago. The unit would show static and then black out for partial second ...audio interrupted during the noise and flicker of screen
Repaired under factory warranty at 48k Hope that helps |
