Around here the '11 models with higher miles go in the upper 20's and lower mile ones go for low to mid 30's.

Yea, I am a little picky. I know it's a used car but I still feel like $30K is a lot of chee$e to spend on a car so I wanna make a choice that I am uber happy with.

Here are my picky but not choosy needs:

Engine: 35i
Year: Any
Price: $28,000 - $33,000
Exterior Color: White or Grey...maybe Red
Interior Color: Oyster (cream), or Black.
Wheels: 20'', if not, I will upgrade.
Features/Packages: Sport Package (not critical, it does nothing mechanically)
Miles: Under 60,000

Weird quirks:
-I don't care about the Nav, but I do want Bluetooth streaming (not possible separately I think)
-I want the silver trim around the steering wheel, silver side steps on the exterior,
-Want Backup camera and Parking Distance Control
-A Spare tire would be nice. I don't like the idea of driving on a flat tire, but run flats are impressive.
-I used to love the Mocha colored interior, then then I saw it in a different lighting situation. Not as cool in different lighting. Weird huh?
-I don't care about a 3rd Row
-I want one in California, but I'm car crazy and will travel for a crazy deal.

Dude, I need a sweet car!

What you want would be easy to find around here (DC/Baltimore/Metropolitan area). The only thing that might be a little harder to find would be the 20" wheels, most of the X5's that I see come with the 18" wheels, so you'd probably have to add the 20's yourself.

Grey or White X5's with sport package, nav, black or oyster interior are a dime a dozen around these parts. Go to Cars.com or Autotrader.com and do a search for within 50 miles of Washington DC zip code 20001.

Heck you could always fly here - it's cheap from other major hub cities - buy what you want and then drive home. I did that with the 2005 X5 I bought several years ago. I had to have an Imola red one and the closest one I could find was in Connecticut so I took an Amtrak train up there, the dealer picked me up at the train station, took me to the dealership, we finalized all the paperwork and I drove it home later that afternoon. Easy!

I second the Cars.com or AutoTrader.com.

3 of the last 4 cars that I have bought have come from ads seen on those websites.

My biggest bit of advice is to be patient when you're shopping for a car. Being in a hurry can either lead you to buy a car that you don't really want, or once you find a car that you want, can lead you to overpay for that car just to bring it home.

Looking at a 2013 white 35i with the M package going for $43k. Has 23,000 miles. Pretty loaded. What do you guys think?

A little concerned about the wheels size because I would need to add some all season or winter tires.

I have rushed my share of purchases...I'm gonna try and not do that again.

The BMW dealer Pre-Sale check/inspection is a great tool for anyone not buying directly from a dealer. TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY. :-)

I have looked at everything on Auto trader for the past 2 months. I'm gonna take a short break and then go back when they have new cars.

Cars.com isn't working well for me right now so I'm gonna search again later. This morning i found a few hundred cars, but I couldn't filter out some features.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Adrian

Why would someone sell a car so nice so early? The mileage looks like it was driven often, but was there a problem?

Sort seems pretty effective...
Used BMW X5 Base or Unknown - in 92093 Area - on Cars.com

I set the lower limit at 2010 to allow you to buy a warranty when the car is still under 4/50k...

Search Results

I did a search within 500 miles of me and this is what I found:
2012 BMW X5 xDrive35i, $35,000 - Cars.com
2012 BMW X5 xDrive35i Premium, $35,000 - Cars.com
2012 BMW X5 xDrive35i, $34,991 - Cars.com
2011 BMW X5 xDrive35i, $34,792 - Cars.com
2013 BMW X5 xDrive35i, $33,847 - Cars.com
2013 BMW X5 xDrive35i, $32,162 - Cars.com
2011 BMW X5 xDrive35i, $32,000 - Cars.com
2012 BMW X5 35i, $31,773 - Cars.com
2012 BMW X5 35i, $31,588 - Cars.com
2012 BMW X5 35i, $31,588 - Cars.com

None met my "picky but not choosy" criteria......why?

The steering wheel trim was missing.......the steering wheel is a mystery to me right now and i'm hung up on it. It looked so good, why do so many X5's not have it? Did it go away in 2012 and up?

After I figure out this mystery, I'll stop looking for it and stop the non-sense of rejecting some X5 for vane reasons.

I'm a little bummed out tho, maybe I should save up some more anyway.

P.S. Does anyone know what package gets you the trim on the 35i ?

Searching near the Capitol

Here is what I found near DC: (50 miles near zip code 20006)
2012 BMW X5 xDrive35i, $34,995 - Cars.com
2011 BMW X5 xDrive35i Premium, $34,795 - Cars.com
2011 BMW X5 xDrive35i, $33,761 - Cars.com
2011 BMW X5 xDrive35i, $31,995 - Cars.com
2011 BMW X5 xDrive35i, $31,369 - Cars.com

This one I liked the most: Great looking interior
2011 BMW X5 xDrive35i Premium, $34,795 - Cars.com

The color combo I like the most is this:
2009 Used BMW X5 30i at Boston Foreign Motor Serving Allston, MA, IID 12555864

...but I think this is the leather that looks different when it's in different lighting.
For example:
2011 BMW X5 Navi,Sport pkg, Pano in La Porte TX from Benchmark

weird huh?, unless there was something different in the leather after the 2011 facelift that I don't know about.
