35d Transmission Warning Light

Hello!

My search foo is failing me on this one, so I'm posting what might be a stupid question:

2012 X5 35d. Just out of warranty (of course!) at 52k on the clock. Everything is running kosher but I've got myself a transmission warning light in yellow on the IC.

Absolutely no mechanical symptoms, the rig is running like clockwork.

Avoiding the dealership because I don't want to get nailed on diagnostic costs for something that might be minor, and I always like to know the answer to questions before I ask them at the dealer. So:

- Any ideas what it could be, given the complete lack of problems?
- What's the easy way for me to read this code and find out what it is?
- Does BMW have a decent track record of good willing a problem like this just out of warranty?

Thanks!

Weird, BMW UK give you 3 years unlimited mileage to my understanding and IMHO 52k isn't that much for a BMW

BMW USA is 50k and 3 years.

It's a leased vehicle, I'm WAY over miles, but I planned on that when I found a couple of great suppliers out in the middle of nowhere I need to get to regularly.

7 more months on the lease, I just need to limp this bad boy through. I figured I would be out of warranty, but can't imagine much stuff blowing up on a 2012 diesel... not like those poor bastards with early V8s, right!?!

I'd leave it parked in the bad part of town with the key in it.....

BMW has been known to goodwill. BUT once you bring it to BMW there is a history. If they blow it off, and it gets no worse, fine. If they say "big problem" you might need to take significant action - and they might not help.

Maybe park it and rent for 7 months?

GL

PS I know, I know...there is no 'bad part' of Portland....

Running fine and just the warning?
Warranty is 4yr and 50k - so just out - I'm sure if it is something major BMW will assist if you ask - another reason to do everything with the dealer - esp. since it is free maintenance.
Won't know if you don't have them check it out though...ask them to submit a Puma case since it is a transmission message.
