My panorama sun roof opening mechanisms broke just a few days before the warranty expired. Dodged that bullet.
Water pump went out of warranty. (Repaired myself.) Rear air springs went out of warranty. (Ouch.) Had a coil on plug go out. Not bad. (Knocking on wood.)

Great thread, I just joined the E70 clan with a 2009 30i. 53K miles, exceptionally clean and pristine, almost a new car. Not a 3rd row car so I'll look at the rear to see if it has air springs. Brake pads were changed in 2013, oil last July. Pics attached. I included the driver's set pic because I'm amazed how little wear is present. Previous owner was meticulous.
I've had a 2002 E53 since 2010 so know what happens to them as they age. Disappointing that the expansion tanks on the E70 is a different design but STILL breaks! A VC gasket every now and then is OK, but I DON'T really want to do oil filter adapter or rear subframe bushings on the E70. For now, I'm enjoying the ride! Bill |

I've got the 35D and at 80k miles I've not had a problem with it at all, I bought the car with 70k miles about a year ago and over that time all its needed are basic services. I can honestly say I haven't had anything go wrong with it in the past year and 10k miles. My cousin and nephew both have X5 E70's and they also say they haven't had major issues with their X5's either. I suppose it's a waiting game now

I've had the worst luck with my 2008 X5 3.0. The following things broke
Electric Water pump failed around 45k (stranded for 3 hours) Leaking radiator @ 55k miles Headlight washer and cover fell out (dealer blamed thieves but that isn't true) - $350 repair Washer fluid line from front to rear CRACKED IN THE CAR FLOODING CARPET $700 repair now Cylinder 5 misfire
