Well, it looks like the X has a bad oil supply line to the front turbo. SA is currently working on getting covered under the CPO. CPO says engine hoses for coolant and oil are not covered, but in the parts manual (thank you RealOEM), all oil lines for the turbos are referred to as 'pipes'.
This may be the key to me paying a $50 deductible or around $600 for the repair. My other argument was that if one of the line fittings was leaking, they are actual machined fittings which would be covered under CPO where a clamp is not. My SA already sent the request up to BMW before I sent him my idea for getting the CPO coverage using BMW's wording against them...and he worded it how I presented it. Glad I have a good SA at that place |

Of course there is a reason. The reason is it didn't cost YOU $63k. It's pretty simple, if you don't want these types of issues, spend $63k on a new one. For more on this, please refer to this thread.

I do think yours is maybe a little snake bitten. I haven't heard of so many issues with the diesels.
i've only owned mine for a year now, bought it with 61k miles and now it has 72k. I've had a few issues pop up, but all common for these cars. NOx sensor failure, EGR cooler crack, and recently the CE light came on stating the DEF tank sensor was bad (although it's then since gone away and not come back). Overall it's been pretty reliable. Also I agree, it's hard to see myself driving anything else right now. I love the shit out of this car. (well, except for the E36 M3 I just bought as my weekend car) |

I think there are some items that could have been designed better, however, as with anything today, if you don't bring it out to the market today, you'll miss the boat. This is the same with all electronic items we purchase. We are left to be the testers. As the OP mentioned above, he loves his X5, and that's exactly how I feel.

What color interior? Factory spoiler, heated seats, and HK sound system? ![]() If not already planned, make sure to change the expansion tank along with that thermostat. Don't get the aftermarket Behr tank, it's thin crap, go OE fropm the dealer. Ohh, and also replace those old Vanos seals. Really wakes up the bottom end of the rev range when the Vanos seals are new (gobs of torque).

The only enjoyment I receive from my x-5d is when I vent my utter frustatiion to anyone who has the hours to listen. From the vehicle being programmed to dropping to half power when I need the 425 ftlbs. to pull, the rear hatch that I have to benchpress open because a service bulletin sized flaw is a 'dealer discretion' fix and we know which way the dealer is going to swing. My passengers are reminded regularly that they are no longer protected by an airbag or seatbelt tensioner. Who wants to replace a control unit, a ballast and a bulb when a headlight burns out, $700 for the three, removing fenderwell and front bumper to do so? The list goes on and on. My next vehicle will be a restomod 50's pick-up with a cable running from my foot to the carb.
