Oil level sensor
I have a 2009 x5 4.8, my oil level sensor malfunction pop up on the idrive. Does this mean the sensor is no good? Have anyone replace it before? What's the level of difficulty? Where is it located? Btw, truck has 85,000mi on it and no check engine light. TIA, Sam

It's at the bottom of the oil pan. Do it @ the next oil change, since you'll have to drain it anyway.
There's a procedure to check if the sensor is indeed faulty, but I'm not sure if it's worth time following it. |

Sensor will be staring you right in the face once you remove the metal skidplate.

Can the extreme cold weather cause this? Mine comes up when the engine is cold and goes away after a few miles of driving. This started to happen in late January. I live in CT.

Thanks for replying. I also think the cold is causing the cold to pop up. I'm just going to keep my eye on the oil through the dipstick.
